The Climate

The days in the Canary Islands are long and sunny with mild temperatures and few variations. The thermometers register between 19ºC and 24ºC all year round due to the presence of the Trade Winds and the thermal inversion that they generate. There are very few cloud formations and rain is scarce.

These are the reasons why, every day of the year, the Canary Islands invite you to spend a holiday out in the open air where you can enjoy the sunlight, clear skies and make the most of your free time.

Weather forecast for the following days

Thanks to the exceptional climate all year round, the only things you need to put in your suitcase, whatever time of the year you come, are light clothing, summer footwear and something a bit warmer to wear at night or when you travel to the higher altitudes.

If you’re going to do some activity or sport, don’t forget to bring the appropriate clothing and, of course, remember to put in your swimwear, sun screen and sunglasses.

The sun plays a very important role in the islands. It influences the climate, everyday life and the people themselves. It has also been proven that it has multiple benefits: it’s a source of vitamin D, strengthens your bones, improves your mood, influences your quality of sleep…

However, there are certain precautions that must be taken when you sunbathe:

  • Always use the correct sunscreen for your type of skin.
  • Renew the sunscreen every 2 hours and when you come out of the water.
  • Avoid sunbathing between 12 and 4pm.
  • Be careful with children out in the sun, protect their skin adequately.
  • If you’re going to be on the beach for a long time, don’t forget to take a sun umbrella.

The Canary Islands are one of the regions in Europe with more hours of sunlight – over 3,000. Their geographical location also favours long days that are full of sunlight all year round. In winter, the sun rises at 7:30am and sets at 6:30pm; in summer it’s sunrise at 7:00am and sunset at 8:30pm.
